Hearns, Arthur ‘Sonny’ – 78 of Halifax, passed away on May 23, 2012.  Born in Trenton, Ontario, Arthur was the son of the late James and Nellie Hearns.  Art served for over 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring as a Warrant Officer, Haul Tech CD.  Following his retirement from the Navy, Art continued his career as a Marine Consultant with Eyetechinics and M&M Marine for over 10 years. Besides his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his sisters Helen Fenton (Sid) and Margarie Fitzell (John).  Art is survived by his brother Frank (Linda) and Tom (Norma) and sisters Betty Balsdon (Carl, deceased) and Dothory Barns (Ted), his wife of 54 years Bernadette (nee Henry), his children Brian (Lena), Carmen, Sean (Madeleine), and Kevin (Marian), his grandchildren: Brian, Tiffany, Melissa, Arthur, Christine, Ian, Erin, Dylan and Allison; and his great grandchildren: Brook, Kenneth, Joseph and Santana; and extended family Laura and Kevin Brake. Art had a great love of history and nature and was an avid golfer and wine maker.  He was a wonderful son, husband, father, papa and great-papa and will be greatly missed by all. A service celebrating Arthur’s life will be held at 11:00 am, on Monday, May 28th, 2012 at St. Michael’s Church, 14 St. Michael’s Ave., Halifax, Nova Scotia, Father Frank Pellerin officiating, reception to follow at the Parish Hall.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601). Family flowers only, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or QEII Foundation Palliative care would be appreciated.
